NFL Referees

Over the last few regular seasons and Superbowls, it has become apparent that the referees are pretty bad when it counts (especially when helping the Steelers' win). At this point you would think the NFL would do something about it.

The NFL is the most valuable sports organization in the nation. More valuable the MLB. Baseball has MLB employed umpires and an umpiring school for them to go through as well as minor leagues for them to umpire in first to rate them. MLB umpires do make mistakes occasionally still but not normally game changing mistakes, especially now with instant replay for home runs / foul balls. Of course, one play or pitch in baseball isn't as important as one football play either.

Back on topic: the NFL needs to have full time, NFL employed referees that have to go through some kind of training and testing. If I went back and watched the Pittsburgh vs. Seattle Superbowl I could pick out at least five blown calls or non-calls during big plays that completely ruined the game.

At this point something needs to be done. This topic comes up every year on ESPN after some game gets blown by the referees. Last year it was the Broncos and a Cutler fumble as well as the Superbowl.

I know that there will still be mistakes, but if you are the most wealthy sports organization in America, and lesser valued organizations have full time and trained referees / umpires, you need to do something about this situation now. Hopefully it will at least cut down on the insane amount of blown calls.
